Light, versatile and comfortable, the colourful Cielo stacking armchair by German designer Sebastian Herkner was inspired by the Herkner's visits to Colombia where he visited local craftspeople and learned about traditional weaving techniques.
The technique the Colombian artesanos and artesanas use to create this piece is called “momposino” – a method that is especially popular in Colombia's Santa Marta region on the Caribbean coast. The coloured strings are made from recycled PVC and are woven by hand around a fire-galvanised steel frame, creating different patterns.
Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, Cielo can be used to create colourful seating arrangements on a terrace or in the living room as well as add personality to dining areas of restaurants or hotels.
