Relay Design Projects

Commissioning Platform

London, UK

Founded by London-based Relay Design Agency, Relay Design Projects commissions leading artists and designers to create limited edition design objects. United by their experimental and material-driven approach, the pieces push the boundaries of craft and design.

Relay Design Projects

Relay Design Projects has a strong focus on experimentation, allowing artists and designers space to produce work outside of their regular remit. In the current climate it is more important than ever to provide designers a space to experiment and develop their practise. - Neil Walsh, Managing Director, Relay Design Agency

Conceived by Relay Design Agency founders Neil Walsh and Richard Healy, Relay Design Projects launched in 2019 as a commissioning platform for limited edition design products. The first Arcade Collection was presented during London Design Festival and included works by designers such as Attua Aparicio, Robin Grasby, HAHA Studio, Richard Healy, Jochen Holz and Silo Studio.

As part of each commission, designers and artists are invited to produce work that explores a new material or process. This provides them with a space for experimentation outside of the financial constraints of the commercial design market and results in a collection of unique and highly collectible objects. Relay Design Projects #01 includes rainbow-coloured lamps made from hyper-heated stainless steel by HAHA Studio, and ceramic works by Attua Aparico made by introducing glass into the firing process. The platform's second collection was a limited series of turned totemic vessels by Charlotte Kidger produced using reclaimed industrial waste.
