Alentes
Our objects have a textural pleasure, a gentle ‘soul’ that is revealed to the touch. There is an elegant balance between the controlled and uncontrolled that entertains the eye.
Alentes was founded in 2017 by Vassilis Sfiris and Christina Kappou, who studied fine art and architecture respectively. The studio's name is derived from the Spanish word ‘alentar’ meaning ‘to nourish or to help grow’ – a reflection of the studio's ambition to create objects that express personal values and experiences.
Made by local artisans and professional technicians in a 600-square-metre workshop in Attica, Greece, Alentes's pieces are cast from an aggregate made up of stone, marble and cement that has a feel, durability, weight and quality comparable to stone. The casting technique the studio uses is a 7000-year-old manufacturing process in which the liquid material is mixed and poured by hand into a mould before it is cured for twenty days. Each object is then assembled and sealed with a protective coating which makes them suitable for outdoor use.
