Finnish-German designer Pia Wüstenberg founded Utopia & Utility to explore the intersection of design and craft. Her functional sculptures are rich in narrative and place value on the beauty found in imperfection.

Utopia & Utility

I believe that everything that deserves to be made deserves to be made well.

Pia graduated in 2011 from the Design Products programme at the Royal College of Art in London, where she created the first collection of her signature Stacking Vessels. She remained in London until 2017 and now lives and works between her studios in Germany and Finland.

Human culture’s connection to nature is at the heart of Utopia & Utility’s collection, which combines elements made from materials including wood, metal, stone and glass. The company focuses on craft production and a contemporary approach to the handmade that connects various makers across Europe. Its playful compositions celebrate the uniqueness inherent in small-scale artisanal production and showcase a range of traditional skills.
