Personally informed, locally defined, and universally desirable.
Kawther Alsaffar studied Industrial Design at Rhode Island School of Design before completing an MA in Design Products at Royal College of Art. Her multidisciplinary practice moves between art and design, using storytelling and craft to examine human intimacy, cultural identity, and emotional connection. Through Studio Saffar, Alsaffar develops objects that translate regional narratives into contemporary forms with universal resonance.
Founded in 2014 by Kuwaiti designer Kawther Alsaffar, Studio Saffar explores the relationship between craft, identity, and contemporary design through objects shaped by regional narratives and material culture. The studio works closely with local craftsmanship traditions, developing pieces informed by migration, memory, and lived experience while balancing cultural specificity with broader contemporary relevance.
