Sasha Court
My work is a devotion to capturing the ache and the awe of what it means to be human.
Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sasha Court creates contemporary ceramic works shaped by themes of duality, vulnerability, and human connection. After studying mathematics and engineering and working in the tech industry, she transitioned to a full-time ceramics practice focused on hand-built stoneware vessels. Using coil construction, layered glazes, and tactile textures, Court embraces imperfection and spontaneity as part of the making process. Her contemplative forms reinterpret traditional vessel-making through an intuitive and expressive contemporary lens.
Originally trained in mathematics and engineering, Sasha Court transitioned from a career in technology to a full-time ceramics practice rooted in intuition and material exploration. She hand-builds her stoneware vessels using the coil-building technique, allowing each form to develop gradually through rhythm and response. Surface, glaze, and texture play a central role in her work, where visible traces of the making process become part of each object’s character.
