RAILS
I love travel and history. I believe we are constantly reinventing things based on what we know and what we see. I am influenced by so many creative minds, from Eileen Gray, Le Corbusier and Etore Sottsass to Matisse and Warhol.
Having spent her childhood in Guadeloupe, Gwendoline moved to Paris to study and work in PR and digital marketing. She then relocated to London where, in 2015, she graduated from Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, with a Graduate Diploma in Interior Design, before setting up her own studio with projects in England and France. Gwendoline began work on RAILS during her studies in London.
Conceived as a functional sculpture, RAILS’ distinctive silhouette is informed by the cross section of a railway track. The pieces are made in Portugal and France from either aluminium finished in marble or plywood finished in metal, brass, lacquer or wood. They can be used individually as stools, chairs, coffee tables or side tables, but when stacked together, form benches, tables, room dividers and even shelving. A literal and metaphorical exploration of ‘journeying’, RAILS been exhibited at the Decorative Arts Museum in Berlin and design festivals in London, Paris and Milan.
