Molten 1090

Glassmakers

London, United Kingdom

Sisters Laura and Emily Smith founded Molten 1090 to explore a more regenerative, circular approach to designing and making handblown glass. From their East London studio, by way of Bermuda, the duo transforms elemental materials into luminous, purposeful objects.

Molten 1090

“We didn’t want to build just another glass studio, we wanted to create a business with a restorative and regenerative approach to design.”

Molten 1090 was born from a shared dream of sisters Laura, a glass artist and designer, and Emily, with a background in business and sustainability. Their complementary strengths shaped a studio rooted in circular design, creating objects that are beautiful and consciously crafted. Each collection is developed with both the first and final piece in mind, repurposing excess material into future works. Every object is handblown in the UK, carrying the unpredictability and elemental beauty of its making.

Rooted in sustainability, Molten 1090 reflects its founders’ belief that design must be intentional, inclusive, and responsible. Glass is one of the most sustainable materials available, but the duo goes further, minimising waste, supporting artisan studios across the UK, and recycling excess materials into new limited-edition works. Deeply influenced by their Bermudian origins, the brand’s palette and sensibility are shaped by the pink sands, shifting tides, and small-island ecology of their childhood home.
