My designs centre on two core tenets; form and detail. The overall shape and structure of each piece is enhanced by the hand carved, tactile details that catch the light, create dramatic shadows, and feel beautiful to the touch.
Award-winning master craftsman Paul O’Brien studied fine art and sculpture in London, trained in fine woodwork and honed his craft at an internationally renowned furniture studio before founding Modet in 2017.
The brand’s furniture displays a bold, ambitious approach to form-making in wood. Many of the pieces feature organic silhouettes that recall classic Scandinavian designs of the mid-20th century, through a thoroughly contemporary lens. Paul employs curves, carved elements, soft edges and natural finishes to give his furniture its sense of refined quality. The studio only works with sustainably sourced hardwoods, which are hand finished with a natural wax oil that enhances the tactility of the wood and emphasises the natural grain.
