I believe colour communicates emotion, creates mood and speaks directly to the soul.

Born in South Korea and adopted in Norway, Maria has lived in London for over 15 years where she works out of a studio at the prestigious Cockpit Arts. Her work is held in private collections across the world and has been exhibited in solo shows in the UK and Norway.

Each of Maria's works are rooted in a unique colour palette inspired by the places she visits. The colours of the sky, the beach and the mountain where she grew up in Norway serve as a base palette to which she adds fragments of colour that she encounters in her everyday life and on her travels. Broken lines feature heavily in both her prints and paintings, colour and monochrome work creating a raw and scratchy effect. On top of this, she adds stitches made directly into the paper or canvas that bring body and dimension.
