Malva

Design and Architecture Studio

Valencia, Spain

Founded in 2023 by architect José Cortés, Malva is a Valencia-based design and architecture practice working across spatial design, furniture, and lighting. Rooted in a slow, research-led approach, the studio explores form through material sensitivity and production process, creating objects that feel both contemporary and enduring.

Malva

"We believe in a paused process - one that invites form to emerge slowly, through research, intuition, and a deep respect for materials."

After working with architects like Benedetta Tagliabue and Sou Fujimoto, José Cortés founded Malva in 2023. Based near Valencia, the studio operates from an orchard-lined atelier transformed by Cortés into a space for hands-on experimentation. His work spans architecture, object-making, and installations. Malva Office has been featured in Vogue, Sight Unseen, and Elle Decor, and exhibited at platforms including EDIT Napoli, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Galerie Paradis in Paris, and SaloneSatellite 2025.

Malva is defined by its thoughtful, exploratory practice. Each piece emerges through a process of testing, reworking, and reflecting - revealing form as an outcome of rhythm and restraint. The studio engages in small-scale production, combining natural materials with architectural references and spatial awareness. From lighting elements to sculptural objects, Malva’s work seeks an “aesthetic sustainability,” favouring a timeless visual language over trend. With work recognised by AD España, Flat Magazine, and NYTT ROM, Malva Office is part of a new generation of studios redefining how architecture and object-making intersect.
