Louise Heighes
The way that leather can be cut, woven or folded into 3D shapes while still remaining soft and tactile sparks my imagination and allows me to create wholly original pieces of leather art.
Louise set up her eponymous textile artistry studio in 2020 after many years working within the fashion industry for brands such as Louis Vuitton, Azzedine Alaia, Nike and Chanel. She is a graduate of the Textile Design course at Central Saint Martins where she sold her final degree collection to Chanel.
Louise works with two layers of sustainably sourced leather, drawing on her couture background to cut, weave and fold them together until they become one rich and sculptural surface. From her canvases, graceful forms such as grasses, leaves, blossom and feathers emerge. Simplicity and craftsmanship are at the heart of Louise's enduring work. Each piece is made to order so no two pieces are the same.
