Line Nilsen
The loom is my canvas, where yarn is transformed into intricate, handwoven textiles.
Born in the Arctic Circle and trained in the UK, Nilsen draws from the Nordic play of light and dark. Her meticulous process involves hand-painting warps in layered stages before weaving, letting the yarns hold colour, memory, and movement. Using linen, cotton, wool, and paper threads, she creates tactile, layered pieces where light and texture emerge both on the surface and within the weave. Each work sits at the intersection of art and craft, rooted in a deep respect for weaving’s history and its expressive possibilities.
Nilsen’s philosophy is rooted in slow, intentional making. She embraces the meditative rhythm of the loom and the invisible labour behind each work, blending technical complexity with emotional depth. Her woven canvases have been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, Collect Art Fair, London Craft Week and London Art Fair, and are held in private collections across Europe, the US, and Asia. With over a decade of experience in fashion and interior textiles, she now works exclusively on limited-edition works and bespoke commissions, fluidly moving between art and design.
