I use clay as a way of harnessing memory, of capturing memory in a physical form.

Kerry’s work is informed by the landscapes of Scotland where she grew up. She has been working with clay for over 25 years and has a studio at Cockpit Arts in London.

Kerry says she is inspired by the making process itself, which involves stretching and pushing the clay up and out to create bulges and hollows that begin to take on a relatable presence as each piece is built. She starts out with a form in mind but the dynamic outcomes are always a consequence of the material’s natural properties. During the COVID-19 lockdown Kerry moved away from producing functional vessels and began experimenting with large sculptural pieces. Her playful Cyclops lamps incorporate light fittings, allowing them to straddle the line between art and design.
