Hands
At the heart of the Hands enterprise is a set of values that really make us what we are. Originality, craftsmanship, transparency, a desire to achieve impeccable quality, and an understanding that every carpet is an expression of individuality. - Mr. Ravi Patodia, Hands Chairperson.
The company was founded in 1881 in Bhadohi near Varanasi by Mr A Tellery – a pioneer of Indian handmade carpets. The business was passed on to the Patodia family some decades later and is now helmed by the second generation of the same family. Its achievements include the creation of one of the world's finest hand-knotted carpet with an incredible 4900 knots per square inch.
Working with a network of global designers as well as its own in-house team, Hands produces carpets that are made from the finest materials including sustainably and ethically sourced fine silks and New Zealand wool. Hands' designers translate global trends in design, fashion, interiors, and popular culture into a wide range of designs including hand-knotted wool rugs, hand-tufted carpets and handmade kilims and dhurries. Produced at Hands' facility in the bustling carpet city of Bhadohi, India, the carpets are made by a team of skilled craftspeople using techniques that have been passed down across generations.
