Christina Hesford
For me, creativity follows a cyclical process. I can keep going with responding and reflecting until a new stimulus or direction emerges, and the cycle starts again.
Since receiving a first-class honours degree in textiles from Manchester School of Art, Christina has practiced and taught extensively. In 2020, she completed a Masters by Research at Northumbria University.
From the traditional to the unorthodox, Christina repurposes a wide variety of materials in her work, including silk and decommissioned fire hoses. Her current focus elevates imperfection, transforming notions of value and purpose, and challenging the throwaway culture of consumerism. She enjoys the repetition and intricate skill of hand weaving and knotting, which brings new life and meaning to the objects she transforms. Her practice alternates between the use of white and colour, with the white works placing an emphasis on light, shadow and surface texture.
