London, UK

Artist Bob Aldous creates abstract works in response to the movement and actions of water. Flow and friction meet light and depth to deliver works that are both familiar and uncanny.

Bob Aldous

I have developed a unique technique of painting on silk, combining the use of acrylics, ink and watercolour. The delicacy of the silk provides the ideal canvas for my multi-layered approach.

Bob trained at The University of East Anglia, Goldsmiths, and Ravensbourne College of Art and Design. His artworks hang in the Royal Albert Hall, The Savoy Theatre, and the Langham Hotel.

Drawing in ink, acrylic and watercolour, Bob employs spontaneity and vigour to capture the movement and energy inherent in the natural world. His fascination with water began during his studies in the 1980s when he visited Switzerland to look at mountain streams. He seeks to capture its ephemerality using the translucent properties of watercolour and ink. His experimental technique involves using calligraphic mark making and impasto paint application to give the works their unique quality.
