Atelier Ashiesh Shah

I don’t see art, design and architecture as different, I see everything as the same platform. I strive to design objects that can sit in contemporary living spaces but will still be extremely relevant and meaningful 100 years from now.

Ashiesh began his career in New York in the mid-2000s having graduated from Parsons School of Design with a degree in Interior Architecture. After being named as one of the top 50 interior designers in the country by Architectural Digest for three years running, he opened his eponymous atelier in 2017 to work on projects that span art, design and architecture.

Rooted in Indian Mythology, form and tribal geometry, the pieces that Ashiesh's Mumbai atelier creates layer traditional artisanship with contemporary aesthetics. The atelier's lighting, furniture and objects are made in collaboration with master craftsmen from all over India using a diverse palette of materials, including spun copper, cast bronze, lacquered wood and woven grass. Through this collaboration, the atelier is fostering a design ecosystem that empowers the craftsmen and brings their skills to a new audience.
