Ane Christensen
All my work begins with the simple geometry of bowl forms and flat sheet. I often include metal wire, used like line drawing in space.
Ane was raised in Copenhagen, moving to London to study Jewellery Design at Sir John Cass. She completed her MA (Metalwork & Silversmithing) at the Royal College of Art (RCA), before establishing her practice in 1999.
Applying traditional techniques such as hand piercing, drilling and soldering, Ane enjoys working with a variety of metals, combining them in an exploration of colour and texture. Having focused on silver tableware for many years, she gradually shifted towards creating more abstract pieces that are less concerned with traditional perceptions of function. Her work investigates the meeting of contrasting elements, often combining simple, heavy bowl forms with visually complex, open and delicate structures.
