Alissa Volchkova
‘I explore and revisit different production methods in a poetic way, developing the potential of surrounding materials by challenging our preconceived ideas and perceptions about them'
Volchkova, a graduate of École Camondo and Penninghen in Paris, holds an MA in Architecture from the Royal College of Art in London. She has collaborated with various museums and design galleries worldwide, including renowned institutions, Christie's, Saatchi Gallery and Fracas Gallery.
Volchkova specialises in ceramic and glass, using crushed, recycled glass and porcelain to craft expressive homewares. Movement is a central theme in her work, achieved through unconventional production methods, whether that be reimagining the 16th-century 'ice glass' technique from Venetian artisans or embracing the unpredictable nature of slip movement and kiln firing. Her distinctive pieces strike a balance between adaptation and control, as she pushes materials to their limits to create beautiful, progressive, and original shapes.
