Studio Lux
My designs embody the essence of movement, and my philosophy revolves around 'changing and moving.' Each piece narrates a tale of spatial motion, capturing dynamism and the art of gravity manipulation.
Born and educated in China, Hongdi completed her master's at Bartlett School of Architecture UCL, London. She worked with Arup and Zaha Hadid Architects before starting Studio Lux in 2013. Informed by architectural approaches, her studio's multifaceted portfolio embraces architecture, installation, landscape, and product design, celebrating traditional crafts and spatial DNA.
In May 2023, Hongdi debuted her inaugural collection, 'Keep Moving,' at ARTEFACT, the Contemporary Craft Fair during London Craft Week. Her creations are inspired by repurposing marble cut-offs and employing innovative metalwork, harnessing constant motion and changing light. For each design, geometric shapes are strategically laid out to capture the marble's natural vein and flux. The collection showcases nonconformist shapes, reminiscent of planetary colours and textures, resulting in a dynamic and unique polychrome range that harmoniously merges traditional stone craft with modern techniques.
