“Handmade and heartmade” is how Lebanese designer Nada Debs describes her approach to creating products that combine form, function and feeling. She uses materials to tell tactile stories, sometimes in pure and surprising forms, and sometimes with intriguing combinations and juxtapositions.

Nada Debs

My work is driven by a belief in the power of design to cross time and border and touch us on a primal level.

Nada grew up in Japan, studied design at the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States and has spent significant periods of time living and travelling the world, finding connections between different cultures.

Nada leads a Beirut-based team of designers who develop products that showcase a variety of craft techniques. She describes her belief in craft as a feeling that goes beyond geography, language and culture. Geometry is an important tool for Nada, representing complex philosophies with intricate, simple beauty. Her pieces often feature geometric patterns laid out in marquetry, carved in wood or chiseled into stone. Each product highlights the ability of the human hand to transform materials into objects imbued with emotional resonance.
